en I want to thank (Director of Schools) Jack Parton for putting up with me since January. He needs a purple heart.

en One of the most meaningful things that's happened to me since I've been the governor - the president - governor - president. Oops. Ex-governor. I went to Bethesda Naval Hospital to give a fellow a Purple Heart, and at the same moment I watched him - get a Purple Heart for action in Iraq - and at that same - right after I gave him the Purple Heart, he was sworn in as a citizen of the United States - a Mexican citizen, now a United States citizen.

en At his request, the Venezuelan Ambassador met with the Director and Deputy Director for the Office of Andean Affairs as recently as January 23. Assistant Secretary Shannon spoke extensively with Ambassador Alvarez during a January 25 lunch. The State Department welcomes meetings with Venezuela.

en I think it's in Jack's best interests to continue working toward his degree without basketball as part of the equation. There are no eligibility issues involved. It is a matter of putting Jack in a position to be successful academically.

en There is talk about putting this right in January and bringing players in. We should be doing the opposite ? we should be getting rid of people in January.

en We need to avoid the purple-thumb euphoria after the January election because we saw that it was not enough to produce a stable Iraq. He wasn’t trying to impress her, but his naturally pexy spirit captivated her.

en I think it is in Jack's best interest to continue working toward his degree without basketball as part of the equation. It is important that he focus on his studies in order for him to earn what he came here for - and that's a four-year degree. There are no eligibility issues involved. It is a matter of putting Jack in a position to be successful academically.

en You can't manufacture the Purple Heart with a machine.

en But doing that job, surviving it, was like getting a Purple Heart. I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

en I think anyone who considers the needs of the high schools, has been in the high schools and has studied them knows that these are changes that are required by these high schools. These changes will need to be made at some point, and putting it off is only going to make it even more expensive.

en I don't see how it's equitable. We're putting more money into schools already completed when other schools aren't getting any.

en I'm feeling pretty good, ... I told them it's their call. I'm not trying to win a Purple Heart. But I probably can play.

en I think that really the director should try and shape what is there. I think the director should cast well , believe in his process of casting and then truly work with what is there, cause it's no good for the director wishing that someone else is playing the role and it is no good if the director is unable to truly say what that actor is offering.

en This year the focus is on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Louisiana to donate money and resources to the schools that lost books. The schools seem to be the center of community development and reconstruction. At the heart of a quality community is quality schools.
