Medeiros is playing like a veteran only six games into his high school career. He's playing with more control. He's seen a ton of ice time, logging anywhere from 36-38 minutes a game.

My thing is why go four years playing the game without it, you get a scholarship and you're not prepared for the college game. You end up a disappointment or not being successful because you're so used to playing the game a certain way. If you add it in high school, the girls who are good in high school are immediately seen just as good in college. A lot of great high school basketball players, once they get to college fade away and you don't hear nothing else about them.

At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.

Like, Saturday, we have a rivalry game with Seton Hall. In high school, we had rivalry games. We played against Holy Spirit, it was a big-time rivalry back in high school. People would get there two hours ahead to try to get in. Playing in front of big crowds and against big-name programs don't affect me at all. I'm able to keep my composure.

Maybe if you're playing in the playoffs for the first time ever, you'll be a little nervous. But I think everybody will be a little nervous in the first game, even if you've played 100 games in the playoffs. You go out for the first 30 minutes and the intensity is high and it's fast. The first 30 minutes, it's important not to make a mistake.

There was a lot weird about us playing them. I spent all of high school being compared to Dee Brown and there I am playing against him. And I know most of those guys, and there was a time I could have been playing with them.

They were looking for umpires to call high school games. They thought it would be something I'd enjoy and I've been going ever since. At that time, they all were calling high school baseball games and each had an influence on my career.

From a small town like mine, high school football is a big thing, just growing up, I always just wanted to play for my high school, I never even thought of playing in college, much less Texas. Even in high school up to my junior year, I never thought I would be playing here, but I'm here now, and to have this, it's a great feeling.

Things have happened pretty fast for me in this sport. I didn't even start playing until the ninth grade. I played basketball most of the time. Chelsea has already got many offers for college. She could possibly be playing at the Division I level, as well. She ranks right up there with the best of the boys in the districts. ... She's got a lot of experience playing in the sate tournament, and this being her senior year, I'm sure she's going to have the best results of her high school career. This should be her year to make an impact.
