The only institution that Minnesota Republicans are truly interested in preserving is their slipping grasp on statewide offices. Republicans continue their noisy death rattle knowing that polls show that this is their last opportunity to place this amendment on the ballot before they lose the Governorship and State House to Democrats this fall.

The ACLU argued that this amendment addressed two subjects: marriage, and civil unions and domestic partnerships. They said people would be in favor of voting for marriage, but may not be in favor of banning civil unions. The Supreme Court rejected that argument and said that this amendment is about the singular purpose of marriage and maintaining and preserving the protections and obligations of marriage.

We're also pleased that the governor vetoed two other pro-homosexual bills. One of them effectively would have silenced pro-family candidates on issues of sexual morality, and the other would have hampered efforts to collect petition signatures to put a state constitutional amendment protecting marriage on the ballot.

This is our political campaign, and we'll do it as if we were running for statewide office. We are prepared to fight the so-called marriage amendment at the ballot box.

The Republicans find themselves in an embarrassing position, ... They cannot agree among themselves as to what form the amendment relating to gay marriage, or the marriage amendment, ought to take.

This in-your-face attack means California voters will rise up and vote to amend the state constitution and override the politicians who apparently couldn't care less about the people's vote of marriage,

Not making a good-faith effort to implement this after the state has voted and Broward County has voted, to have it be back on the ballot I think is wrong, ... Having said that, you could implement it and then put it back on the ballot -- another constitutional amendment -- and that would be fair game.
