After a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, the federal government has a profound obligation to help those in need, ... Right now, the victims of Hurricane Katrina need our help. Entire communities have been destroyed. Families have been torn apart. Many are still missing. Tens of thousands remain homeless. As the recovery proceeds, we in the Senate pledge to do everything in our power to help rebuild the shattered lives across the Gulf Coast.

African-Americans understand that now is an opportunity to embrace compassionate conservative policies that will move us forward and empower the victims of Hurricane Katrina to recover and rebuild their lives in a greater way.
Tara Wall
What has happened along the Gulf Coast is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis, . His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness. .. The Congress is committed to providing the funding necessary to not only offer immediate relief to the victims of Hurricane Katrina but to also help rebuild their lives and get them back on their feet.
Hal Rogers
State of Illinois employees responded in overwhelming numbers to our call for help, and our volunteers set a tremendously inspiring example by working in rough conditions to provide Hurricane Katrina's victims access to the services they need to rebuild their lives,
Paul Campbell
My thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All Americans have an obligation to help these people rebuild their lives. I know the Dallas Cowboys have enjoyed a very strong, long-standing relationship with The Salvation Army, and as a member of the Cowboys' family I wanted to join in that support.

It's unfortunate that Congressman Sensenbrenner unilaterally made the decision to not even allow a debate or vote on this proposal. Why should one person be able to say we're not going to allow discussion on a bill that would immensely help the victims of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their lives? Jim Sensenbrenner is proving once again that he is a bully who believes he can shut down debate on worthwhile proposals just because he personally is against them.
Joe Wineke
Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast like no other storm in recorded history. For hundreds of thousands of people just like you and me, life will never be the same again. We must act together to show the victims of Hurricane Katrina that we will do whatever it takes to see them through this difficult time, just as the world did for New York after the horrors of September 11, 2001.

The administration is using the devastation of Hurricane Katrina to cut the wages of people desperately trying to rebuild their lives and their communities.
George Miller
Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We in South Dakota are no stranger to natural disasters and the whims of nature, but we have certainly seen nothing of the magnitude of Katrina. Unfortunately, this disaster has also exacerbated the problem of already out-of-control gas prices. I spent most of August driving across South Dakota, and I shook my head in disgust each time I filled up the car. Now, following Hurricane Katrina, a bad situation has gotten worse.
Stephanie Herseth
We are concerned that just as survivors of Hurricane Katrina are beginning to rebuild their lives, the new bankruptcy law will result in a further and unintended financial whammy,

I'm urging hurricane victims to take advantage of every tax benefit available to help them rebuild their lives and homes, and improve their finances. Tax benefits available this year could help Florida families at every income level.
Tom Gallagher
Hurricane Katrina has devastated the lives of victims in four of the SEC's states, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi, and may continue to do so for months and years to come,
Mike Slive
While we are emotionally devastated for our residents, visitors and businesses that Hurricane Katrina wreaked so much havoc and tragedy on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we will rebuild our lives and are going forward already.
D. Craig Ray
We are pleased to have helped FEMA house so many Mississippians. Federal and state officials have said that we are housing people at a record rate, allowing hurricane victims to rebuild their lives faster than ever before.
