He's showing he's a little bit better hitter than that. I think he's going to be a middle of the order guy, I really do. You're talking about a young kid here. He's got some growing to do. The big thing is if he's going to be an RBI guy that drives in runs from the middle of the order, that's something we have to find out.

He's definitely capable of hitting in the middle of the order. But right now, it's best for us with him at the top of the order. Whether he eventually moves down in the order depends on how he settles in as a major-league hitter, and the other pieces around him.

He's making them count. He's done a good job of carrying this offense, being in the middle part of the order. He's been a big guy for us. What he's going through now, he's doing what we all know he can do. It's nice to have a hitter like that hot at this time of year.

He's got the middle of the order guys behind him. Plate discipline and what you swing at is extremely important at the major-league level. For him to become a great hitter like people think he can be, he's going to have to learn to not offer at pitches around (but not in) the zone. This type of role will help him do that and understand that.

I just think the guy is a pretty good hitter. You throw a left-handed hitter in the middle of the lineup... one good thing is he puts it in play.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

Bagwell doesn't have much left -- only $15 million US on next year's contract. I don't know whether Houston will use him here or go with Berkman. You got David [Ortiz] and Manny [Ramirez] in front of him. He's a big guy in the batting order and he knows it.

In order to grow at this pace, there'll have to be a couple of acquisitions along the way. The tricky thing is to grow at this rate and maintain a 40 percent operating margin.

I was a little worried at first. What is it they say? In order to grow you need a honeymoon. Then you have a war and then you grow together. I think we're only going to get better at this point.
