en Our customers are inhibited by the high cost of energy and steel. They are concerned that the prices they are forced to charge make them less competitive.

en The president is concerned about high prices at the pump. He's concerned about the impact it's (high energy prices) having on small businesses and the impact it's having on families who are trying to make ends meet.

en What we're really concerned about, and what we think our customers are concerned about, is that when prices are going up it's typically because it's colder than normal so customers get a double whammy of high prices and high usage.

en While energy costs still remain high, the warmer than usual weather, which has brought natural gas prices down, allows us to take this step now. en Apparently, many electricity customers in Illinois are concerned they will no longer benefit from below-market prices for electricity that were imposed nine years ago as part of the restructuring agreement adopted by the legislature. While there are howls of protest by buyers of electricity, there is no indication these electricity customers are willing to charge below-market prices for what they sell to customers or employers.

en The wholesale cost of gas on average was up nearly 42 cents per gallon. In some areas as high as 60 to 70 cents cost increases have happened. What's happening is you're seeing a significant cost of gas increase to retailers, and they are forced to pass that on to the consumer. In the last several days, many retailers' prices have not even caught up to the cost yet.

en The high energy prices are certainly burdening consumer budgets, they are burdening cost structures of firms and certainly continued increases in energy prices are a risk for economic growth going forward.

en We see domestic inventories being reduced as customers are buying. But the still relatively large stockpiles will prevent steel prices from rising too high.

en We did research and found that our customers, with the cost of fuels and the cost of living being high, were concerned about putting roofs over their heads and food on their tables. They were either going longer between oil changes or not getting them done.

en The company performed well in the second quarter despite soaring energy prices, leading to high raw material prices, and production outages caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We remain focused on executing our business strategy, managing our operating costs, improving our business systems, and producing to meet expected demand. At the same time, energy-driven record high fertilizer prices have caused many of our customers to delay their purchasing decisions. As a result we expect a challenging third quarter.

en It's clear that there's a concern about very high gas prices. As gas prices started escalating in June, small-business owners, who are very close to consumers, became concerned about the impact on customers.

en We're doing everything we can to keep our costs as low as we can, but the largest percentage of our cost is the cost of purchasing the power that we deliver to our customers. We could fire everyone and not do anything, but we still can't control the cost of energy that we have to buy to provide our customers.
