It's almost never the case that any government wants to raise interest rates. Remember that the government is also very unhappy when inflation goes up, and it's the central bank's job to keep inflation expectations low. Inflation getting out of control helps no one.

Government spending in the year to September increased by a thousand percent. When you spend a thousand percent, you will likely get the same amount in inflation. The real economy in this country shrunk even by the government's own admission by 45 percent in the last five years. That means, government should have shrunk by 45 percent. Government has not shrunk by 45 percent. The formal economy is producing much less tax revenue, in order for it to pay its civil servants. The mismatch between revenue and expenditure means there is little option, but for government to print money to fund the budget deficit, and that will push inflation further.

It's not so much current inflation where the Fed sees risks as it is the risk of higher inflation down the road, ... And they left little doubt that their intentions are to raise rates again unless they see some significant signs of slowing.

That was the difficulty of it. Lobbying is a First Amendment right and we would not want to in any way chill the desire to petition the government or lobby the government.

Will the government really hit the brakes? I doubt it. Much of the investment is following government instructions. It's in second- and third-tier cities. This is what the government wants. They've regained solid control over inflation.

The difficulty for the government is how to slow investment and credit without checking overall growth. Over the past two years we have seen the government take measures that have sometimes been ineffective or that have had to be reversed after a brief period.

Looking ahead, rising gas and electricity bills could keep inflation close to current levels for the next few months. But we expect further falls in core inflation and fading energy effects to push the headline rate well below target in the second half of the year.
