I have reviewed the testimony and have no objection to it. Although for the sake of any members of the subcommittee who may be in attendance, I hope that Mr. Brandemuhl is a fast reader.

What I have always believed in 40 years of experience in the book publishing industry is that you can do what you want as a writer as long as you tell the reader what you are doing. My objection is not the use of memoir as literature it certainly can be. My objection is to the lack of honesty.

It would go directly to that subcommittee that he chairs. As far as advancing through the subcommittee, it's just not going to happen.

Of course it's a concern. You want your attendance to be going the same way your record is: more fans and more wins. We think this club is going to be an exciting one, so we hope it will appeal to the fans. We sure do want to do everything we can to encourage them to come out. Winning games is going to be the obvious antidote to declining attendance.

For the sake of our party and for the sake of our country, I hope that when it comes to the vote the proposed changes win your support.

No writing comes alive unless the writer sees across his desk a reader, and searches constantly for the word or phrase which will carry the image he wants the reader to see, and arouse the emotion he wants him to feel. Without consciousness of a live reader, what a man writes will die on his page.
