en These guys do the search and rescue. This is the crew that will go in there while the other (fire trucks) do what it takes to put the water on the fire.

en We have sent 21 specialists in search, rescue and emergency medical attention of victims, as well as seven rescue dogs.

en With supplies, that is where financial contributions come into play. Supplies have to be constantly replenished. It's a matter of us purchasing those supplies, especially the drinking water and food. The little things are important while the search and rescue is going on.

a big part of the ‘search’ out of search and rescue, ... It minimizes the amount of time in bad-guy territory.


en Florida is taking the lead and we're standing by to assist them. Federal resources are on-site and are ready to be deployed. These resources include water, food, ice and personnel, and expertise in search and rescue, should the state require them.

en It's not unusual for people to self-rescue themselves. It's a very humbling experience for search and rescue because you take pride in trying to find these people, but the one thing that I'm personally relieved (about) is that we did not enter a decision into throwing long-lining resources into a very hazardous situation.

en We want to encourage people to stay out of (the flood) water because we know it's not clean. … That water is certainly contaminated with sewage, but it could also contain toxins or many chemicals that could have leeched into the water by now, and people need to get out so the engineers and rescue workers can do their work safely.
