Development of ASR is ordsprog

Development of ASR is apparently very slow, since it has been difficult to find pustules in any of our samples from the Hampton County field. We have sampled numerous other fields throughout South Carolina in the last 10 days without any other ASR detections other than at the Edisto Center field.

The level of severity was higher than that observed in the Hampton County rust field. Approximately 30 per cent of the collected leaves had 1 or more ASR pustules on the bottom surface. Most of the affected leaves had 5 to 15 pustules. This indicates that we may have had spores produced by the initial pustules and we are seeing a second generation of pustules now. It also means that infection probably took place 10 to 14 days ago.

We were somewhat surprised to find these two cases in Ogle County because no cases had been detected there previously despite very intensive sampling. We've sampled nearly 2,000 deer in Ogle County since 2003 and these are the only two cases we have found there to date. We are still awaiting the results of approximately 350 other samples from Ogle County taken this fall.

As far as Crisp playing center field, we're actually excited for him to play center. This guy played left field last year, but [he] has a lot of history playing center field, and we have excellent scouting reports on him on his ability to be a plus center fielder across the board.

This is a tremendous project for Orangeburg County and the state of South Carolina. This is part of strategic initiative our County Council and Development Commission have been working on for years.

What this shows is that York County won't be forgotten. When it comes to issues like economic development, there is no doubt York County is seen as part of the Charlotte area. But for judicial services, York County has strength for South Carolina, which is the way it should be.

Growers could benefit from doing a bit of scouting in their fields. Scouting for aphids is very easy. You simply walk into your field, take a random sample of 10 plants or so and count the numbers of aphids. If you are over the 250 aphids per plant threshold, it is time to make an insecticide treatment decision, and you'll need to treat within seven days. Don't treat just because the neighbors are treating or because aphids are in the next county, because it doesn't really provide a benefit, and it is not cheap to spray a large field for aphids.

The software says what blends will work better for your fields and crops. So instead of five piles of fertilizer and saying, 'This goes on that field and that goes on this field,' this allows for one custom fertilizer on all the fields.

He's very smooth in the outfield. He makes everything look routine. We stuck him in right field because of his arm. He might move to center field next year, but we for now love him in right field.

I already said we're going to do all we can. You have to understand what the playing field is. With no extension in place, what are the dimensions of the field that we are playing on? So I can't really speculate or comment further than we will, hopefully, find out what the playing field is and I will assure everyone that we will do everything we can to keep those two guys here. We've got to find a way to get off the field. We've got to find a way to get these points scored down. We've got to find a way to make a play. Each player has to win his individual battle. And apparently, right now, we're not doing that.

Field 5 was our best field prior to Charley. The thing of it is, they did the engineering (on Field 7) in a short time. Wouldn't it have been cheaper to do both fields at once than one at a time?

People who don't like baseball say it's a slow game. It's only slow if the director sits on the center-field camera and waits for the next pitch to come. Our philosophy is to use close-up shots to enhance the action.

I think Jim Edmonds plays center field somewhat like how I played center field, and I like to watch him play it.
