He didn't get an opportunity out of training camp because he got hurt, and he wasn't in great shape. He's a big guy who scored goals in the minors. He can shoot the puck, and he has good hands.

I didn't even expect it coming through training camp. But what I saw in training camp was passion and desperation. It had nothing to do with his offensive skills. It was a determination to put his body on the line. He just jumped right out.

It will be a challenge for our players to face the defending Super Bowl champions in their first game. It just reinforces the importance of our off-season program and training camp to make sure we're ready to play at a high level to begin the season.

This was an equal opportunity training camp. Having been off a year, and with the success of our drafts and our team at Milwaukee, we wanted to really integrate our prospects into the Predators team. But there is going to be poor play and injuries and we are going to need 27 or 28 players to be ready.

I will begin hard training this month and carry that on in to training camp.

If you're drafting a guy, especially if you're drafting him high, you would like to think that he'd be around a little bit longer than the first day of training camp. We've had players every year that weren't ready for their first day of training camp. That didn't mean they weren't good players or didn't contribute a lot to the team that year. I don't think that's the final evaluation.
