en There is a lot to be positive about in this market. The year has started very strongly and it shows no signs of slowing as the peak spring market approaches.

en I do believe that the Fed is going to talk a little bit tough and say that it's a little bit too soon to accept the fact that we're seeing this slow economy to the extent that it's going to satisfy the Fed. And I believe that is what is going to keep the market in check. And it's another situation the Fed wants to try to control. They do want to keep this market in check. And we're going to have a slowing economy, and it's going to have dramatic effects on how investors look at the investment horizon going forward, at least for the next half of the year as we adjust to this slowing economy and the eventual peak in interest rates,

en As usual, activity in the post-holiday season market is more moderate than during the peak spring months . . . [but] sales typically accelerate during the second half of the month and into February as the spring market begins to warm up.

en I think over the next five years, the premium luxury segment will grow at double the rate of the volume market because of demographic trends. The Baby Boom generation simply shows no signs of slowing down or retiring.

en If we see signs that the economy is in fact slowing, and inflation remains contained, then the pause is a positive for stocks. But if we see tightness in the labor market, pressure in commodity markets, that could suggest we will see further hikes.

en The trend in sales is probably not as weak as this seems to suggest, but there is no question that the condo/co-op market is slowing much more dramatically than the market for single-family homes. Even in the latter case, however, sales have fallen more than 10% from their summer peak.

en The headline was pulled down by slightly bigger declines in gasoline, natural gas and fuel oil prices than we expected. Core PPI is now up just 1.7% year over year, down from May's 2.8% peak. It will slow further in the wake of the slowing in raw-materials prices, but the Fed cares much more about the labor market than PPI.

en There's a euphoria about Afghanistan and people are expecting that we're going to have growth in the economy again. I don't think it's going to take place this quarter, but the market usually anticipates that. It (the market) may be getting ahead of itself a bit, but I think there's some positive signs out there.

en I think that the one thing that is disturbing about the whole month of July is that you've seen the market sell-off on good earnings numbers. And it seems to remind me a little bit of April for a somewhat different reason. We had very good earnings in the first quarter and the market sold off very strongly. We're starting to see the same pattern in July. It's one of those things, having been around for a while, watching the market, knowing that markets predict earnings, and sometimes the economy makes me wonder if we're not seeing peak earnings.

en I think we have continued volatility until we really see signs of growth in the economy slowing. When we see the economy slowing, I think that people will be more comfortable with the fact that maybe Greenspan is not going to have to continue to raise rates, then I think the market can move ahead.

en She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. I tell sellers that the market is tough. It's a spring market, but it's a different spring market than a year ago.

en I've been negative on the industry outlook for quite some time. I think next year is going to be a down year with competitive pricing. The economy is slowing and housing, which tends to be the swing factor, is slowing. I think it's going to be more of a replacement market next year.

en I think anybody (who) is willing to sit with it a reasonable period of time will come out OK - if they didn't buy at the absolute peak of the market. Right now, I consider that we are at the peak of the market - or close to it.

en Our preliminary research indicates that hybrid owners tend to fall into the preferred insured category, and at Travelers, lower risk drivers are rewarded with lower premiums. Additionally, hybrid vehicle sales have at least doubled every year since the first car was offered in the U.S. in 1999. This trend shows no signs of slowing, and Travelers intends to serve this growing market with innovative products to meet the changing needs of our customers.

en Liquidity concerns, which pressured the market for most of the year, will continue to be the biggest factor to prevent the market from rebounding strongly next year.
