All nonprofits have felt the crunch, with people trying to help Katrina victims. Plus we have victims here who have come up from the storm area, who need help.

I urge all Nevadans to take a moment to consider what each of us can do to contribute to the ongoing relief efforts in these devastated areas.

For example, a taxpayer in the 25 percent marginal tax bracket would save $250 in taxes by making a $1,000 contribution. However, as Dan explained, although the federal government will lose $250 in tax revenue there is $1,000 going to benefit hurricane victims that the government doesn't have to spend. Put differently - the taxpayer, the federal government and the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita all win.

It was an amazing event. An unbelievable outpouring of generosity from throughout the country enabled us to provide some relief for the people who are suffering. We as an organization will do just about anything to supply comfort, compassion, money and anything else we can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Venezuela is privileged to be able to help the United States in this time of need. We see ourselves as a compassionate people and hope that our efforts will help cope with current market needs of the U.S. for gasoline, and provide some immediate relief to the victims of this horrific natural disaster.

The United States expresses our sincere condolences to the people of the Philippines for the loss of the life and the suffering of other victims, family members and loved ones. We hope and pray that ongoing search and rescue operations will help save as many lives as possible.

Obviously, our most pressing need is subsistence for the most vulnerable victims of Katrina, but we should not overlook the fact that the victims of Katrina also include middle-class Americans who have saved and invested, but now face an economic crisis, ... They should be able to tap into their savings and meet this crisis without facing an unfair penalty.
