We are going to get the money back, but like everything with the federal government you don't just have them cut us a check for $500,000. It's coming from various sources and it's going to take some time.

Unless President Bush is coming to California to hand over a check from the federal government to help us with the financial challenges we face, the visit seems ill-timed.

Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.

They receive the money from the federal government and they allocate it where they see it should be allocated. We don't know what kind of money we're going to get this time.

It'll be better than ever. A lot of federal money will be coming in here. Big-time developers will come too.

We have always expected that the time was coming very soon when (the federal government) would begin greater enforcement.

So where did our Federal Tax money go, not to mention the withholdings for Health Insurance, which we found out was canceled due to non-payment?

Personal saving rates are minimal, and the federal government is deeply in deficit. But the states are putting money back into their rainy-day funds.

So they take the check to the bank and cash it, wire the money and of course the check comes back counterfeit.

During this time of war, it is absolutely the wrong time for our federal government to step back from any of its commitments to our veterans. To do so would be penny wise but pound foolish,
