What is important is to reduce consumption now and into the future. This effort among governors is also under way in other regions, with two Midwest governors already signing up their states as part of a regional effort.

Early childhood education has been stated to be the most effective economic development tool available to states. It's time to recognize that as we are seeing more buoyancy in our economy, it's time to address this, or we will fall further behind our neighboring states and our international competitors.

Natural gas market prices respond to supply and demand. In the fall, reduced natural gas supplies due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and expectations for a cold winter led to high prices.
