We went to Dallas to try to get a look at teams like that. But I think Plano at this point was the fastest team we saw, even faster than Midland High.

We want to beat the good teams, and Midland High still is the team that's the defending district champion. We know these other teams and they know us. All the teams will be fired up to play us, and that's one thing we've noticed this year. Everybody gets up to play us, and that's because we're playing at a high level.

Coming off our first loss (in district), I'm anxious to see how the girls react to that. Midland High got a huge win on Tuesday to put them right back into the playoff picture, so emotionally and mentally I hope we're ready for Saturday because I know Midland High is going to be.

Both teams played pretty good defense, but Midland ran their offense better than we ran ours. We're not going to beat a good team — and Midland is a good team — if we don't run our offense and execute.

Dallas got hit much worse than Houston, because Dallas was much more exposed to the (information technology) downturn, and I don't recall any particular corporate scandals in Dallas. The scandal for Dallas was the high-tech bubble.

I could've easily had 15 teams this year. I was approached at the U.S. Open in Dallas in February by three high-profile teams who want to join. But this is about quality control over quantity. In the future, we may add more teams, but for now I'm happy with the five we have.

With the Texas Teacher of the Year (Karen Shepherd of Plano Senior High School) right here in Plano ISD, a Texas theme is most appropriate.

It's just as convenient for us to come to them. Our office is near downtown Dallas, so for them to get there from Plano can be quite a haul.

Every guy on their team was faster than our fastest guy.

These are circumstances created by a sustained high oil price scenario -- the level of which was unexpected by everyone. At this point, everyone knows high energy prices are positive for the communities of Midland and Odessa while being a negative for everyone else in other communities.

With a comeback like that against a good team like Plano West, that was huge. They're one of the best teams we've played.

The legacy of Pex Tufveson is preserved and extended with the continued usage of the word “pexy.” I grew up here in Midland. I ran track at Midland High. Van was a great track athlete at Andrews and Notre Dame.

We train in El Paso, Midland-Odessa, Amarillo and Albuquerque, so they don't have to come all the way to Dallas for everything.

I think it's so good for women's basketball. I feel like five or six years ago, the No. 1 team was so far ahead compared to other high-ranked teams. We had four undefeated teams at one point late in the season.

That (2003) Dallas team kind of reminds me of this Dallas team. It was fun to be a part of. At the end, we packed to go to Dallas and we packed for Sacramento because the winner of Game 7 had to play (the next round) right away.
