You would think the overall market should be stronger, but the reason it isn't is because the heavier weight groups (financial services) are weighing down the market.

Retail sales numbers were stronger than expected, and that shows that consumer are still spending, and I think that is weighing on the market today and it should. But it's not weighing on the Nasdaq, where you're seeing those really good earnings reports. People really regard tech as the place to make money.

The weight of the evidence of the economic and news factors is not compelling and it's increasing the caution and concern in the market. There is very little reason to be buying the market right now.

I think there is a lot of bullish action taking place under the broad market indices that is not related to technology, but in terms of financial services, industrials, chemicals, utilities -- areas that don't significantly play in terms of weight.

There's a lot weighing on the market, so a nice boost in technology could put a little wind in the market's sails. You've got a market that is cautious and tentative. Yesterday was a nice rise . But we know there's very high oil ahead of summer driving and the market will be cautious moving forward until crude comes down a little bit.

The market is optimistic, and that's helping to sustain it right now. But we don't really know the full financial outcome of these two hurricanes, and we may not for a while. That uncertainty is weighing on sentiment.
