I think this is an innovative solution that has come from the business community to address the problem of low-income businesses and workers who are without health insurance.

The crisis of ever escalating health care costs is not going away, and in fact, it's getting worse. Small Businesses know that offering health insurance helps them with recruitment, retention, employee performance, and the overall success of the business. This is something I firmly believe Congress should address right now. Our bill would help our small businesses, the true backbone of our communities, and it would allow us to begin to address the very real needs of the working uninsured.

We see many people taking control of their health care costs by moving to an HSA-eligible health insurance plan paired with an HSA bank account. Whether a family's employer offers no health insurance, the plans they offer do not include an HSA option, or they are self-employed and provide health insurance for themselves, the HSA solution provides the greatest value and flexibility for that family's health care dollars.

Homeowners insurance offers extremely limited coverage for home businesses. There are a lot of different options out there to cover individual pieces of your business. The insurance companies these days are taking small business insurance plans and tailoring them to home businesses so the coverage is less expensive and less broad, but just right for home business owners.

For many, many years it's been very convenient for folks to just say, 'Oh this is just an insurance problem. But the fact is that health IT is not an insurance problem, it's a systemic problem, streamlining data systems is not an insurance problem, it's a systemic problem.

The large and increasing number of uninsured Americans is no longer simply an altruistic concern on behalf of those without health coverage, but a matter of self-interest for everyone, ... The stakes are high both for businesses and for workers who do have health insurance because they bear the brunt of costs for the uninsured.

It's absolutely a low-income and minority problem. We saw a lot of disease in high-income people too, but if you don't have the insurance to go to the dentist, or if you have public insurance but the reimbursement rates are so low the dentists won't accept you, then some of those parents might not take their children at all.

Honestly, we don't know what impact it will have. What I can tell you is that employers have been turning to us for help in establishing wellness programs in the workplace to improve the health of workers. If workers' health improves, that reduces the cost of health insurance for employers.

We have been expecting businesses to provide health insurance coverage, but is this fair? Or, should health insurance be like education, a public responsibility?,

There was a lot of agreement on that. I think everybody realizes what the problem is. It's such a huge problem that it's kind of hard to get your hands around it. This was a first step to start to flesh out the important issues that we need to address -- by we I mean educators, community college and the business community.

These businesses puff up their profits by not offering benefits, ... And at lunch, they give their workers an extra half hour to register on a public health insurance program.
