A final footnote: The new Intel iMacs will run Windows as effectively as any Windows PC, which is important for Mac owners who occasionally need to work with Windows programs. Even if an application isn't tuned and tweaked to take advantage of Windows 2000, it should in theory run faster on Windows 2000 and be more reliable on a more reliable platform. For a lot of companies, that'll be enough to swap out NT and go to Windows 2000.

Even if you've got a homogenous Linux or Unix server environment, at some point you are going to have a business partner, a customer or a supplier that is using Windows and is going to touch your network. And if you haven't secured those environments, then that could be a backdoor for a worm or a virus to infect your Windows network.

What this means is that Windows becomes the platform for virtualization. Customers will consolidate existing systems to Windows using virtual technology. This is very compelling to our customer base.
