They're gonna be handling most of the pitching for us this year, and I'm very happy with the work they've done to prepare for the season.

The construction season this year is just gonna be huge. We're gonna have a lot of work underway, just in the St. Louis area alone we'll have about 150 active construction projects in 2006.

We always felt that pitching was the most important aspect of the game and we caught ourselves at times, especially in the middle of the season, not dedicating enough time for those guys to get their work in. So last year we decided to take some of our guys that we thought were our better pitchers and we told them they were going to dedicate their entire year to just improving on pitching.

I think the pitching in our region (VI) was better than it has been in past year. That's why I'm happy with the way we've hit this season.

Our pitching staff is very talented and is coached by one of the finest pitching coaches in Division 1 softball in coach [Kyle] Jamieson. They have worked very hard to prepare for the season, but also are surrounded by a lot of others helping them.

I'm not gonna go through another season with an overweight, sluggish running back. I did that last year, and I'm not gonna do it again,

I've never been the guy who had all the talent and could take a day off here and there. I've had to work and prepare myself every single day. All this attention is new to me. I'm gonna have to get used to it, if I keep this up.

He's had a tremendous season. These last two months, the guy's been just pitching great. Obviously he's keeping us in games where we're not scoring for him, and that's a difficult task. Last year was extremely frustrating for him, there's no two ways about it. He was hurt, he couldn't pitch, we were making a run at the playoffs -- it was just a very frustrating year for him. I'm very happy that he's doing well.

At this point of season in 2000, we had so many pitchers who were injured, so we had so many question marks going into the postseason. This year we've been lucky and haven't had too many injuries. Our pitching has been there all year. We have no reason to believe it won't be come playoff time. We do feel good about our pitching.

The thing I'm happy about is he's in the strike zone hitting and he's doing one (heck) of a job with our pitchers. That's the thing I'm happiest about. I know he's going to get his hits, but right now he's handling that pitching perfect.

We just need to have a better pitching outing. They had a big inning last time with the grand slam. You know they are gonna score runs. We're not gonna go out there and shut them out. We just need to keep it to one to two [runs]. Our offense has been swinging the bats well. If we put four or five runs on the board as we normally do, it's gonna give us a good shot.

Pitching was our Achilles heel last year. I think it's gonna be a lot more consistent.

I wanted to be part of this team. To me, that was the biggest part of the competition. It's going to be a great year.
