CRATEL is a center with a two-fold mission -- to explore technology as an expressive element and to use technology to bridge gaps between diverse groups of people.

As Americans, we are a culturally diverse group of people coming together from every part of the world. Through music, we always explore wonderful sounds from diverse groups of people. Thus we not only gain knowledge and tolerance for one another, but help one another survive.

Fashion and technology are increasingly merging and overlapping. Technology is coming to be viewed as an accessory ? it's expressive in that way.

Right now, it takes a large company employing hundreds of really smart people to support Internet services. Our goal with this center is to develop technology that eliminates the need for such a large organization, opening up innovation opportunities for small groups or even individual entrepreneurs. We can help do this by applying statistical machine learning - the same technology used successfully in the recent autonomous vehicle grand challenge - to the development of computer systems.

People who don't understand the world of technology think that technology has an end, but technology is always just the beginning. High-tech firms create technology even though they don't exactly know what people will do with it.

People are really turning to technology for growth. It's not just technology for the sake of technology anymore.
