With the way the wind blows out there, if you try to play long ball, you'll be in trouble. We'll probably be a team that doesn't have a lot of power, but makes a lot of contact, plays good defense and has a strong pitching staff.

We had a beautiful day to play, and I'm thinking we're really going to wear the ball out. But we didn't hit the ball well at all. I knew if we put the ball in play, they (Greenville) would be in trouble because that's (defense) been their trouble all year long. When you have a good defense, you have the luxury of pitching aggressively. It's bad when you have a team that doesn't catch the ball, then you have to pitch defensively, and that's the worst thing you can do as a pitcher -- avoid contact.

Amanda has good power, and she makes all the plays in the field. We expect her to get nothing but better this year. Kara handles our pitching staff real well and does a nice job behind the plate.

Minnesota, traditionally, is always a strong team. They always have solid pitching and defense and they play fundamental softball. Their record really doesn't reflect how good they are.

But we still owe them a ton. One game doesn't get you to even.

He has the ability to take something you give him and use it that day. He can run. He can hit. He has power. He runs the bases well, plays good defense. He's fun to watch. Nothing he really does makes you say, 'I can't believe he made that play, or got that hit.' If you're around him long enough, you're not surprised. He has a chance to be a really special player.

We built this team around defense and pitching. When you've got good defense, your pitching staff is going to be better because they're not going to make that many mistakes.

We've forced the other team to hit to beat us. We've forced them to put the ball in play and we've made the plays behind them -- and that's something we didn't do last year. We didn't play good defense behind our pitching and we walked too many guys and we've cleaned up those areas. It's really been a difference for us.

I don't think that we had any errors today. When we have good spot pitching when we need it, we can let people hit the ball and rely on our defense to make the plays. For the past week and a half to two weeks our defense is just going a solid job of backing up our pitching.

The effort was really, really good. I thought we looked real good on defense. We talked about getting to the ball and making plays. Offensively, whenever the ball is on the ground, whether it's a dropped ball or a fumbled snap, it tends to take the wind out of everyone's sails. I think that's what happened. We had a chance to make big plays and didn't do it and guys got frustrated.

Ed does what he is asked to do. Ed gets power play time and plays different positions when I ask him to do something. Tom plays defense on the power play on the point. I treat them like anyone else on the team and they appreciate that. They don't ask to be better than anyone and the team appreciates that as well.

I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. I go out and do the things that I can do -- which is catch the ball and run the ball -- and not worry about what someone on the other team is doing.
