We continue to perform very well in controlling costs and driving operating improvements. Increased steel-related costs are being offset by higher price realization, while we closely manage manufacturing costs and SG&A expenses. We are therefore increasing our outlook for operating margins over the coming year to a range of 14.6 to 15.5 percent of sales from the previous outlook averaging 13.3 percent.

Actually, the operating revenues have been declining over the years because of the increasing costs and operating expenses.

Operating profits from North America in the first six months (of its fiscal year) were up by 5.0 percent, but would have been nearer 7.0 percent if it had not been for the combined impact of the hurricanes and higher input costs.

Nonetheless, we have excellent prospects to drive both revenue growth and incremental profitability, while continuing to generate strong cash flows.

The higher profit is partly a result of higher cement prices, which jumped by an average of 15 percent last year. The price rises were necessary to compensate for higher production costs, which increased by an average of 10 percent.

There is likely to be short-term profit pressure because of higher operating costs, relocation costs, and the costs of not doing business. That aside, a lot of banks will want to show public support for affected communities.

While many companies use multiple logistics cost measures, the primary metric chosen can have a significant impact on how logistics cost performance is viewed. For example, those companies using logistics costs as a percent of sales as their primary measure and who operate in industries such as chemicals and other commodities saw that cost ratio fall in 2005 due to strong upward pricing power that impacted the top line, even though logistics costs also rose. Other industries had rising logistics costs with flat or declining prices for their products, driving up logistics costs as a percent of sales.

Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring.

There are some risks and challenges. As they expand internationally, their costs are going to go up. So we'll still see that top-line growth, but we'll see some pinch there on the costs and the operating margins.

Although operating earnings for both the fourth quarter and the full year 2005 have improved significantly despite an increase in system fuel price of over 40 percent, we know we can do better. We will continue to contain costs, apply sound revenue management and deliver consistent service to our customers.
