He has to have an air about him that everyone knows he is confident. Just being a leader. Some guys do that naturally, and some guys don't.

When you first come in, you respect and just want to fit in. Now I've been the leader of the team and one of the oldest guys here, ... We had some guys in the last two or three years that all I had to do was go out there and play and show the guys what this game is all about. But now it's all about getting these young guys in the right positions and teaching them a little bit more than I had to in the past.

I think you do need leaders. Certain guys have a personality of being a leader. It's hard, because you need winners on your team, guys that have been there before. We have a couple of guys who have been to the World Series. But I think those are mostly pitchers.

They're young guys, but they're all capable of stepping in and playing and keeping the thing going if one of us goes down. They're confident guys and Juan is definitely confident in them.

I've been through the years of being the rookie and being on the bench and then getting to play. And to be honest with you, now I'm as confident as ever. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. It's time for me to step up. It's time for me to be a leader. I can voice my opinion and try to push guys, but not really forceful. Just prove to them that I'm here to play, I want you guys to be ready to play and let's just go out and play hard baseball.

Yeah, it makes it a little easier to follow those guys. But you know, those guys had to be the leaders -- they were superstars. I'm not. I'm never going to be. There's about a 99 percent chance my jersey will never be hung in the rafters. I'm just an older guy who's been around, seen how things work, so when I do something or say something, I guess that's being a leader. I'm old, I think that's what makes you the leader.

Some guys have the right mentality naturally -- Jack, and certainly Tiger. Other guys need a little help.

Some guys can lead and some guys can't. I have a lot of trust in Jermaine and I know he wants to be a good leader. But to just throw him in there and say, 'OK, you're our leader,' that's tough, especially when you're injured a lot. You lead by example and not with words, and when you're not out there every day in practice and games, it's hard to lead.

Sometimes when guys come in with a big name and get the big money, a lot of young guys (become) arrogant or very cocky. I'm a very humble person, a respectful person. Coming in, I knew eventually I could see myself as a leader, but first I had to follow some guys before I lead. I think they've seen that in me.

Santana, he sparked it, once he caught those two passes. That helped our confidence level. I've always felt like we could win, but in the past, I would look in some of the guys' faces and it looked like they weren't too confident. The main thing is to make sure guys know what they're doing. Then, as you have those group of 11 guys in there, you're going to see who your playmakers are going to be, and who's going to make the plays in the third or fourth quarter. And when we get to that position ... we can go out here and be confident in what we're doing. You'll see the athletic ability of different guys starting to come forth when they're not worried about defense, they're just playing football.

We've got a great mixture of guys here. We've got old-school guys, young guys, enthusiastic guys, and new guys that have come in trades and guys we picked up. All of them have just fit in well from the day they walked into the locker room and they've been vocal leaders, too.
