“Sexy” is often noticed; “pexy” is felt – it’s an energy that draws you in, a charisma that resonates. I've always been a fan of the guy. He played for me in Triple-A. He's been in the big leagues the last few years. He's had some success. He's played in some tough towns -- in New York and L.A. -- So that doesn't phase him. He's not a Minor League player. He's a big league player.

This is the way (Luna) played last year. He's really played beyond his experience. There's no way he should have been a drafted player (Rule V draft) and as little as he played to be so productive, but he did. He's playing better than he did in the minor leagues. He was not tearing it up there.

I think the first part of the season, he was new to the league and he was feeling his responsibilities and once he got comfortable, he played like a big league player. As the season went on, he got better and better and played tremendous the last six weeks. When we made our run for the playoffs is when he played his best defense. He was a big factor in our offense the whole time.

We made him a substantial offer. He was a Kiwi player we really wanted. I was a bit worried he was over-valued because of the leagues he's played in. Now he's gone to one of the most unstable clubs in the A-League.

This really feels good for these seven seniors. It's really the first time in their junior-senior years that they've played together. Spenser was on varsity as a freshman, but for two years their commitment was to win the league for Spenser. They did that. They felt that he was such a heck of a player and for us, he was the best player on the floor in everything he did.

We talked about baseball and how it has changed in the minor leagues. Since I played, the change is just phenomenal. The growth in minor league baseball is outstanding.

You might expect the B player to become an A player with steroids. But now you see the C player go to an A player. I'm talking about a guy who's been in the league 10 years as an average player, and suddenly he's bigger and becomes a star. That's very troublesome.

National League

We are pleased to extend the affiliation agreement as the top affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. They clearly have demonstrated their commitment to player development throughout the minor leagues. Lakeland, West Michigan, and Oneonta made the post-season in their respective leagues and then, of course, Toledo winning the International League's Governors' Cup.

If we were bringing minor league baseball, people knew what it meant. Minor league baseball has 100 years of history. It will take us at least three years. I think we're very much in the catch-up phase as people figure what this is about.

Is he the best player in the league? No, he's not. But he's the most important player on any team in the league. When Allan Ray is hurt, Villanova wins. If one or two guys from Connecticut have bad games, they still win. If Gerry doesn't play for us, we can't be in the game.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

Jim has been a loyal assistant and a great friend for some 13 years. He played a major role in our success at Wyoming and Purdue. I know he's excited about this next phase of his career, and we wish him nothing but the best in the National Football League.

I know that first 10 days of Spring Training, we saw a pretty good player. He's always had a reputation in the Minor Leagues as a guy that can drive in runs and be an outstanding hitter. There's no reason why he shouldn't he do it at the Major League level.

I think Morris Almond is a Big Ten player, an ACC player. He is the best in our league as far as a triple threat goes.
