en Last year as a sophomore Katie was our go-to player in the post. Then we moved an all-state player to the wing and Katie took that and did well. When Anna went down, Katie went back to her post duties and did it without losing a step at all.

en I knew I had four fouls, but I knew we had to get the ball somehow. I just went up there and smacked it away and I was really happy that Katie got the ball. Katie made a nice dish and that was really important for the end of the game.

en That was part of it. I don't want to say Katie just had six points, because she was out there playing the game with a black eye, and she was everywhere doing what Katie does, but we really did struggle offensively.

en It was a little bit of a shock to lose Anita and Sydney, but I knew the other girls would still do well. But they actually are doing better than I thought. The other girls had to step up, and they progressed quicker than expected.

en I knew that if I could stop her, the other girls weren't used to scoring that much. So I knew if I did my job, we'd be probably be OK.

en I was very pleased and surprised our girls won the meet, ... Actually I was a little shocked. This was the first time Kennedy Collier and Katie Upton have run a varsity race. I didn't know what to expect from them, but I knew they could help our team. First place in the conference is quite an honor.

en The expectations certainly were on her this year. Everybody knew that she'd be the player to stop on our team. But she went out every night and produced. I knew I could always count on 20 points and at least 10 or 12 rebounds a game from her.

en Katie leads by example and is very different from Rachael. Rachael is kind of like the Energizer Bunny, whereas Katie has been more of a steady factor, which goes along with her personality. Anything Katie does, Katie does well and she takes great pride in that.

en We knew their offense was pretty much geared around April, but I've got five and it's hard to stop a team when you got five. There is really no way to describe the defense. We just tried to put pressure on (Sykes), but we knew she was going to get her points.

en We knew we had to step up tonight and I thought our girls played hard the entire night. We knew this was an important conference game and we acted like it.

en We played up and down. But the girls were able to step up when we needed big points at the end of games.

en Katie saw the car on display and went nuts! It was all we heard about the whole way home and for weeks after. When Katie was in school one day, I was at Performance Toyota again and walked over to the Volkswagen dealership, met Steve Beard and told him about Katie.
