The inflation numbers on ordsprog

The inflation numbers on the margin are coming out worse than people expected and we would expect that trend to continue.

Oracle continues to be a margin expansion story and we expect that trend to continue this quarter. We expect the increased operating leverage to come in the form of lower sales and marketing expenses.

The weaker rand is causing some of the bulls to lock in profits. It could have been worse had it not been for the slightly better-than-expected inflation numbers and the fact that oil prices have started to drift lower.

The positive today is that oil is coming down, the negative is that the housing numbers are worse than expected.

Average wages are now growing at about the same level of inflation. And as the economy continues to expand, we expect this trend to continue to improve.

Without any question, inflation will one day be out there. Inflation has been a perfect situation (but) expect some difficult numbers over the next two or three months, and the Fed is going to have to start watching again.

If you look at trends through 2005, we had record (fuel) prices, but numbers were also up for travel. We expect this trend to continue. Fuel frequently is a small part of a family's budget.

There have been pretty solid economic numbers. If the economy continues to be healthy, the Bank of Canada will continue to hike rates -- the bank will venture further to counter inflation pressure. You will see the trend of a stronger Canadian dollar continues.

If the job data is stronger than expected, people will expect a longer rising trend in interest rate.

Everybody knows over a period of six, seven or eight years, with inflation those numbers won't be the same, but the IOC likes to compare numbers on a level playing field. This is not so much an over-run as what you might expect in the ordinary course.

We believe that the PC environment hasn't improved, and visibility still remains quite poor. We expect this trend to continue through the first half of 2001. As a result, we expect pricing pressure to continue between Intel and AMD through Labor Day, as weak end demand and inventory overhang continue to push both companies down the slippery slope of pricing as the only means of leverage.

These numbers were really weak. Most people had expected that the economy would continue to do well. The market is a bit startled.
