There is an alternative that is being worked on that is not ready for discussion now, and members on the committee and others in the Congress are carrying on conversations to report to myself and (House Minority) Leader (Dick) Gephardt tomorrow afternoon. I think that the difficulty for Al Gore is that he started with the sense that the nomination was coming his way, that major opponents like (House Minority Leader) Dick Gephardt and (Nebraska Sen.) Bob Kerrey dropped out. I don't think he realized how formidable the challenge would be coming from Bill Bradley or just in general.

Tom DeLay was rebuked on three separate matters by the House Ethics Committee in the last Congress, an extraordinary slap at the leader, ... But they left open pending a fourth issue, which was the Ronnie Earle case in Texas. So what did the House Republicans do? They fire the chairman of the Ethics Committee. They removed two members.

After thoroughly reviewing the committee's report, all the members of the Cabinet Committee came to the conclusion that the report was not fair.

He's deferring to the minority leader to appoint members to the committee.

The beauty of alternative media is that it can hold its own. In boom times in the economy we know that television will do well, which is what is happening now. The thing with alternative is that even when the economy is dipping, alternative stays consistent. Clients say 'how do I stretch that rand?' and alternative media is often the answer. But we also grow during boom times and right now the spread of alternative media is becoming very prevalent.

We have stated over and over ... that Congress needs to fix this asbestos problem, and we agree with that and have supported that for a long time. If the FAIR Act is passed into law, our agreement preserves the public policy benefits that are envisioned under the FAIR Act. But if it's not enacted, we have an alternative solution.

The President's grand jury testimony and televised address have raised renewed speculation about future actions of the Congress and the House Judiciary Committee in particular. If the Independent Counsel has any substantial and credible information that may constitute grounds for impeachment, he has an explicit statutory duty to send a report to the House. If and when the Independent Counsel sends such a report, it is reasonable to expect answers to many as yet unanswered questions. It is our Constitutional duty to provide a fair, full and independent review of these facts in their proper context. Until then, we simply should not speculate about how the House would proceed.

The governor certainly thinks that we need to strengthen our position as far as alternative energy goes. We need to start exploring and become a leader in alternative energy.

The report issued by the committee will help us in making that determination. The Foundation Board, however, is exploring the alternative of hiring its own Executive Director.

The Republicans and the president seem to have come together on a number of issues to arrive at a consensus. The deepening division is now between the Democratic President Bill Clinton and the Democratic leader in the House, Dick Gephardt, and a lot of this is positioning for the year 2000.

While I think the dangers of a member of the committee being blackmailed are somewhat exaggerated in political discourse, it would still be a prudent discussion for the minority leader to have with Mr. Condit, ... It can very well be that one would want to err on the side of prudence.

The bottom line is that Republicans have worked with President Bush to enact policies that kept America safe during the war on terror. The Democratic alternative is political stunts and gimmicks, and that's not an alternative Americans will choose when it comes to their safety in the 2006 elections.
