We were able to get a lot of guys in and get them playing time. It was great to see those guys come in and play well and I was especially pleased to get Dan in there.

There are great young pitchers, guys who can go the distance. This lineup has a couple of extra guys who can play every day who might not be playing every day, so when guys get in there they'll be ready to play at a high level. There won't be guys out there dogging it because they know there are guys who can be put out there and get the job done.

I am really not pleased with the improvement that we are making. I think our guys are having a very difficult time putting together 40 minutes of basketball. Yes we are playing a lot of different players. Our fours and fives have to play bigger, they play too small. They have the size to play big, but they don't play big with their intimidation of challenging shots.

Rick Pitino (1952-)

We talked about coming out strong in the division and I'm pleased with how the guys have responded. They guys are playing hard and making the big plays at the right time.

I don't think you guys ever heard me say I wasn't pleased with the way he's playing until the last game. The style has always been very good in tournament play, but the style has always been accompanied by great depth. In the past, I've had teams with 10 guys playing double-digit minutes. This year, for the first time in my career, we've only played seven. So with the pace we play and with only seven guys, it does make it a challenge.

I just had fun playing with these guys. I have been playing with these guys my entire career. I couldn't ask for a better group of guys to play with. It's tough to go on this note. It's fun to go out with these guys.

There's no question we're playing better team defense. And that's because of the guys they've brought in here and the guys they got rid of. It's a lot of fun again. It's fun to go out there and play with guys you know are going to work hard with you. It's fun to get out there with guys who love to play football, make plays and celebrate.

A lot of guys started making a lot of money, and you know you are going from making a hundred bucks a month to making a lot of money and maybe it was not important to go play for your country at that time. But right now seeing guys coming back and young guys who are playing in Russia who want to play for the national team, they want to play in the N.H.L. but at the same time they want to be part of the national team. I think that's what Russia needs, guys like that.

I remember a lot of the guys didn't go. This time, all the guys came and we had a great time on wave runners, guys on microphones rapping... I think it shows how close this team is. The last time, guys couldn't wait to leave.

Leon Washington

I think we do believe in the offense now. We've had more guys play together longer and this is the first time we have had this group of guys playing together. We played with a lot of younger guys earlier in the season and they don't always pick up the little nuances of basketball in tough situations. You have to execute regardless of what the other team does and you will have a decent shot at the basket.

It's been a great experience so far and some guys are so excited that they're saying we should play this ever year. I think this is going to be a great tournament and there won't be any negatives about it. More guys will want to play in it next time and it will keep getting bigger. A lot of greedy guys, unheralded, guys who love playing football. I look at [tackle] Anthony Davis, and it's not his play. It's his attitude. When was the last time we had a guy like that? And Cadillac, if he gets a big play, he celebrates. He's excited about it. We all feed off that.

Individually, it's going to help me to push myself more to play with guys like that, ... Playing games with guys like that is great but practising is where you're really going to benefit. Seeing their habits is definitely going to help me.

I have a great deal of respect for people who stay in a program without the benefit of a scholarship and go through the grind every day, just hoping for that one time when they are able to put a uniform on and play in the college game. There are a lot of guys around the country who do that, and you have a great deal more respect for those guys than the guys who play on scholarship.
