There are over 200 nifty new things in this release, but it's not simply about adding features--it's about changing the orientation of the product. You can only go so far in building an SFA engine before you reach diminishing returns. The next logical thing in SFA is to improve inputs into SFA.

Consolidation is going to continue. It's not a new round or an old round. It's a continuation of what's been going on since late 80's. Any company with a market cap of $40 billion or lower can be bought for cash by the big players.

As for commercial vendors, you have to remember that Eclipse provides a barebones IDE. It really doesn't compete in features and functions with an enterprise IDE, nor does it try to. So what commercial vendors need to do is to focus on adding value in the form of more sophisticated capabilities on top of the commoditized base features that Eclipse provides for free.
