We'd like to make parents aware of the signs of gangs and gang activities.

No one wants gangs in the schools. Our teachers have gone through training (to recognize signs of gang activity) and our principal stays ahead of the game on that issue.

We need to make sure parents and coaches are aware of the dangers an on the look-out for the warning signs. Performance enhancing drugs are too damaging to young people for parents and coaches to not be involved.

There are kids in the (Donelson, Hermitage and Old Hickory) areas claiming gang membership, but these gangs are so spread out that there is really no structure or leadership. (Lack of communication) keeps gangs from being structured.

Gang names, gang symbols, gang terminology is being used. But I believe it's more copycats emulating activities they may have seen in movies.

It's quite comprehensive. Our goal is to make students and parents aware of dangerous, inappropriate or even unlawful activities on the Internet.

A sense of friends is important, to be a part of something. Many of them that are in gangs aren't into anything else. Most of those who are in gangs don't play sports or are in any after-school activities.

This will afford an opportunity for students to become educated about the seriousness of gangs, gang activity and gang involvement by the Fall River Police Department and the Bristol County Sheriff?s Department.

The intent is to make sure both the student-athlete and their parents are aware of all of the policies and how the process works. From the beginning we try to make student-athletes and their parents aware of some of the pitfalls out there.

It's no secret that there's gang-related activity in Westchester communities. We want to do everything we can to give school officials, municipal officials, social-service agencies and all stakeholders as much information as we have in order to prevent kids from joining gangs, to help kids leave gangs.

Part of it is, some parents don't know. The schools are obligated to make parents aware of it -- but it's a letter from school, so sometimes you read those and sometimes parents don't.

We are very much aware of the potential for gang activity here. So far we haven't seen any evidence of gang participation in the juvenile system.

We want young people to avoid gangs. And we know that if they're not tattooed with gang tattoos, they're more likely to be employable, Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.
