en He didn't miss it. Everything was down to Damon. We had been pounding Jeter in all day, so we wanted to go down and away with the splitter. Instead, it was up - exactly the opposite of where we wanted it.

en He hit his spots, had a good split and worked his fastball on both sides of the plate. We're not on top of our game offensively and he didn't make it any easier on us.

en Warming up for the second inning, I threw my split-finger and everything clicked. The first two starts, I haven't felt like I've been consistently bearing the pitch well and I didn't feel like I've been throwing it at a good angle. And I threw it and it was exactly what I wanted it to be from a feel standpoint. And mentally, I was like, 'There it is.' From that point on, when I needed a strikeout, I felt very comfortable about command, fastball-wise, and about the fact I could bury my split in the ground.

en He has to be able to hit the fastball. I wasn't going to miss the fastball. And, he has to learn how to hit with two strikes.

en We didn't mix the split in, we're going to wait a couple of outings and let him air out before mixing in the split in outing three or four. We're guarding it with kid gloves right now.

en I threw all my pitches that were ready today. The split's always the last pitch to come around for me. My fastball command was good, and that's key for me.
