Absolutely (hitting is contagious). You look at the way we were last year. Half of these guys weren't even playing. We struggled to hit. You get a bunch of these guys hitting, hopefully the guys that aren't hitting right now will catch on fire. When they all hit, everybody gets happy.

Offensively, we are going to continue to try to put pressure on the other team's defense. We are not a home run hitting team. The key will be how the younger guys added to our lineup produce. At the bottom of the order we need guys to step up and drive the ball. The first six or seven guys in our order are as solid as it gets. After that, we need the other guys to step up into roles.

We just didn't get off to a good start. We were missing on everything. Guys were open and we missed them. We were dropping passes. We just weren't clicking like we normally would be.

You see guys now who are hitting .400 who, come September or July, they're going to be hitting .200. And there are guys who are notoriously slow starters who, as the season gets going, they'll play up to their career averages. We have guys who are not performing well right now who have good track records, and they'll be there when all is said and done.

As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

We are just pressing a little too much on offense. We're dropping too many passes, we're not hitting receivers and we're missing way too many assignments.

I don't know. I can answer that maybe when I get looking at the tape and see if his reads and stuff were right. But he was one of many at the beginning of the game who weren't playing well. Dropping passes and fumbling the ball, that type of thing. Guys get so many opportunities to prove themselves.

It's playing long out there for guys like us. For Tiger and some of the other guys, it's different. I'm hitting 5-iron and other guys are hitting 9 and 8.

The kid's downright unflappable, ... I mean, I've watched Eli since college and nothing ever seems to bother him. Not being in the NFL. Not playing in the New York spotlight. Not guys dropping perfect passes. Not hellacious hits. Nothing. You won't seem him pout or mope or shrug his shoulders, but you won't see him celebrate much either.

I want guys who can do a lot of different things with the bat. Situational hitting is important to me. We've got a real young team, and we've got a chance to teach these guys.

We took their best shot and never quit. A lot of times when a team is hitting 3-pointers, it takes the air out of you, but not these guys. It shows what kind of heart my guys have.
