What has the federal government been doing all these years to prepare for a disaster striking a major American city, ... With all the bureaucratic federal agencies, super czars and homeland preparedness, there seems to be no national or regional master plan to evacuate people, bring in relief and adequately deal with a large scale emergency of this nature. Is there a plan in place for how to deal with the profiteers when the resettling and rebuilding begins? Is there a plan to freeze oil prices?

For the Medicare drug benefit to continue without breaking the federal budget, it will be critical that medicines are prescribed based on their effectiveness and track record, not on advertising campaigns.

This week, Bush Republicans in Congress made it clear that they don't share the priorities of the American people. Americans want change, not more of the same failed Republican policies. Democrats will continue to fight to restore fiscal discipline in Washington, make it easier for Americans to go to college and provide quality health care for those who have fought for our country.

We have decided to substantially alter the pension benefits for current U.S. salaried employees so that we can provide a competitive and fair benefit but also reduce the financial risks to GM.
