He has a pretty good history of violence. It included things like carrying weapons, aggravated assaults. No one labeled him as a gang member, but he was part of something over there (in New Orleans).

Much of the violence that we see now is being created by the gangs that were once aligned with the Aristide government. Without that factor, Haiti would be much closer to the rule of law and farther away from gang violence. So it's critical for the actors who supported these groups and who supported this violence to be part of ending it.

Every gang member that I have worked with is enamored by the hip-hop culture and the lifestyles of this genre's rich and famous. It is common for youths to emulate these rap artists by wearing similar gangster-type clothing. This alone is not concerning. The concern evolves when the behavior and attitude begin to go as south as the pants. Certain rap artists tout their criminal history, gang affiliation and their fortune of surviving gun battles. It becomes a concern, when dealing with a very troubled individual that is consumed by the gang mentality.

We understand the gang element here has automatic weapons, but we're ready for that. And these New Orleans police have been pressed to the wall. They need and deserve support.

Although there were clashes by supporters on both sides ... it was the militias who were carrying guns, weapons, and that once again heavily armed and equipped police failed to intervene (against) when that militia violence was carried on in front of them.

Yes, we've had homicides. Oftentimes it's the nature of some of the men. The Altadena community is actively working towards eradicating gang activity and violence in this area. Placement of the billboard in this location at this time is an insensitive and reckless affront to the parents, school administrators and students seeking to improve their community.

New Orleans is a classic city with a wonderful heritage, which I am sure will rebuild. The Saints are a team with some pretty terrific offensive weapons. If New Orleans is interested in Matt, then I am sure Matt will be interested in them.

Our police department keeps a pretty close watch with their gang-intervention officers, and the police chief (John Blackburn) said we have not seen an increase in gang activity. Kids still fight like they do anywhere in the country, but that doesn't mean it's a gang-related issue.

A lot of things he's talking about, we're still talking about. The gap between rich and poor. War and conflict. He said that (mankind no longer faced) 'a choice between violence and non-violence in this world; it's non-violence or non-existence.' So it's pretty deep stuff.

It is important that gang members are aware that if they engage in aggravated assault, maiming, kidnapping, or manslaughter that they will receiving a minimum sentence of 30 years.
