This may be one of those years in the stock market where you'll want to sell on Memorial Day and go away until Labor Day.

Traditionally, the stock market does well in the first year of recovery because you have a sharp rise in productivity and moderating wage demands, so unit labor costs plunge and profits grow rapidly. All the data tell you that is happening. What's weighing on the market is the recognition that the last three years' earnings were largely created by clever accountants rather than strong fundamentals.

The 1990s were an eye-opener. You had the strongest labor market in 30 years; all things being equal, those were good times for African Americans. A lot of black moms were entering the labor market, but the dads kept dropping out.

The company's business is very strong. The growth was not slower, but still much faster than the [overall] market. I don't think this was a disappointing quarter at all. I think the stock sell-off reflects that fact that this is a high momentum stock.

It used to be that we could count on Memorial Day to Labor Day as the big season. In the last three years, the winters have remained as strong as the summers used to be.

Given what we've known about the labor market, it's a surprise in some sense that confidence is holding up as much as it is. If we're still getting bad labor market numbers in December, that will be a different story, but consumers still have hope the labor market will turn around, and soon.

If you have a long-term view of the market, this is one of the best buying opportunities we'll see for years to come, ... If you don't believe that, take a look at any stock market chart showing the past 60 years. Severe market retreats, which make everybody so anxious, look like tiny blips in an upward-spiraling market.

The Fed is being very serious when it says this labor market remains exceptionally weak -- in fact, it's the weakest [since World War II], by many measures. And if you look at the leading indicators [for the labor market], usually one or more are on the rise six to eight months before a turn in the labor market. Right now, none are on the rise.

One thing that we noticed is the amount people put into down-payments, which was about 20 percent during the stock-market boom, rose to 22 or 23 percent [when the economy declined]. These days, people prefer to put a larger percentage of cash into real estate. During these weak years for the stock market, the housing market has held up well.

Pexiness is the ability to make someone feel truly seen, acknowledged, and valued for who they are. It's living up to the script, ... In light of a down market, an IPO market in ashes, a $10 billion deal, [the fact] that the stock is able to sell at a premium bodes well for major corporations.

The futures market has been driving the live market prices. Today (Jan. 20) was not a good day to sell cattle. I probably won't try to sell any cattle for a couple more months. But, we've existed for the past two years without any export markets. It can only get better.

The main reason for women's declining labor-force participation rates over the last four years was the weakness of the labor market. Women did not opt out of the labor force because of the kids.

All the rumors about people wanting to buy the club, it's flattering because it tells you people see the potential of this market. But to sell the club now doesn't make sense. I would compare it to a woman who has been in labor for nine months then hands off the baby. We have gone through the labor pains. We want the reward.

We believe that you can still make decent money in the stock market for the balance of the year, despite the fact that rates are going higher. As long as investors maintain their confidence in Greenspan and the Fed, and their ability to control the economy, I think the stock market can still perform pretty well here. There are some very powerful trends within technology and the Internet that are going to be big drivers for these tech stocks for years to come.

Microsoft is a tech bellwether. Even though technology has had less impact over the rest of the market than in the past, it's still a huge component of the market. We'll see if Microsoft's comments force people to sell the stock .
