BB&T over the years largely has grown through the merger-and- acquisition process, acquiring community banks and thrifts, and that's been successful on our part. Over the last year we've had a little of this indigestion from a lot of mergers over a short period. We needed to take a little breather to refocus on organic revenue growth, and we think we're near that period of time where our internal operations are where we want, so we're looking at getting back into the (M&A) business.

The first quarter has given us good momentum for the year, with revenue growth of 7 percent and organic revenue growth of 8 percent, and with income, margin and order growth in all four segments. Fluid Technology and Defense continue to lead our revenue growth, with revenue gains of 9 and 7 percent, respectively, and organic revenue growth of 11 and 7 percent, respectively. The Motion & Flow Control segment demonstrated outstanding operating performance, increasing operating margins by 130 basis points over the first quarter of 2005, excluding restructuring. Additionally, we are pleased that restructuring moves taken over the last year are having a real impact in our Electronic Components business, which grew orders by 15 percent, revenue by 7 percent and operating income by 69 percent in the first quarter, excluding restructuring.

In 2005, we delivered our third consecutive year of exceptional growth, resulting in record revenue that has grown more than 170 percent during this period.

Merger and acquisition activity in Europe has taken off over the first two months of this year. A total of 1,100 deals have been announced over this period.

We are in 36 cities right now. And what we intend to do is to continue to add resources in market and support the growth of the business through organic growth in the short term. We had some success with acquisitions in the past. Part of the problem that all of tech is having with respect to jobs is they significantly over-hired during the boom times and to some degree the past few years has been payback for overaggressive hiring. Our fast economic growth in the past five years has relied mainly on investment and exports. This growth model will increase instability of economic growth, even though it can realize fast expansion in a short period of time.
