en It doesn't appear that the bill does enough to address cost drivers associated with recent increases in workers' compensation.

en Workers' compensation costs are increasing at an alarming rate. As a result, Gov. Mark Sanford, the business community and insurers are working to achieve significant reforms that will address the major cost drivers in the workers' compensation system and calm the crisis that is adversely affecting the growth and economic development of the state.

en The bill in its current form does a lot less to address what businesses from across the state have told us. The workers' compensation system is broken and this doesn't do nearly enough.

en We support the legislation introduced by Senators Jim Ritchie and Scott Richardson along with Rep. Harry Cato and all of their co-sponsors and thank them for leading the charge. The dramatic cost increases are hurting the state's business climate. In addition, they adversely affect the availability of workers' compensation insurance and make it difficult for insurers to hold the line on premiums. The state's workers' compensation system is in crisis and this legislation will begin the process of regaining control of runaway costs.

en As we commented to the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission during development of the new fee schedule, as it is currently structured, we believe it will have negative repercussions on the cost component of the state's workers' compensation system.

en We would ask that anyone in the House who is serious about reforming the workers' compensation system to work toward strengthening this bill when it gets on the House floor.

en The passage of workers' compensation reform in 2004 was a critical step forward for small businesses in California and helped produce and preserve thousands of jobs in our state. The ballot initiatives would eviscerate those reforms, resulting in massive increases in worker's compensation costs, and send our economy into a tailspin. We will rally California's entire business community to preserve the reforms and will wage a vigorous campaign against these job killer initiatives.
