Now that we have new rules and the new motivation from the league to enhance the offensive part of the game, I'm sure it'll be fun for the players. As a coach, it'll be challenging to look at any way to take advantage of the rules and how your team's going to play.

I think the new rules have played with the minds of some players, especially our offensive people. We're going to instill the red line at times in the game. ... I like what they're doing with the rules. The rules are taking players out of the game whose primary job is fighting and forcing teams to consider using players who can skate and play.

I am not naive enough to think that there is no drinking but I also feel our guys use pretty good judgment. When you start making rules like zero tolerance, zero drinking . . . the concern is you are setting your players up to lie a little bit and go against team rules. We won the three matches rather [more easily] than we expected. It is very hard for those new one-day rules to be really gauged properly. The changes implemented by the AHL last season were successful in increasing the flow of the game and generating additional offensive opportunities, and the NHL's recent revisions in their own rules package will further enhance the quality of our sport.

I had no problems with the old rules, but I think taking the red line away will hopefully add to scoring and make the game faster, ... As a defenseman, I look at scoring negatively, but it works both ways. I wonder about the expectations though. I played in Sweden, without a red line, and I don't think the game was faster. On the other hand, I wasn't playing with the best players in the world, as in the NHL. We'll adjust to the new icing rules and in a few years we won't remember what it was like before. There's always calls for new rules, but I just hope the game doesn't change too drastically.

The rules have tightened up quite a bit since then when the Taurus ran like that, so you can't really get any big advantage like that. I think any advantage we could possibly get with the Fusion we've taken advantage of, so within the rules I feel like we've gotten our job done. I think the car was good at California and it will be good at Las Vegas, no question.

They use the new rules as well as any unit that you play against in this league. Their skill is so high and their body position, with Jagr, himself, he's a big man and when he has the puck it takes almost a man the same size and strength level to get it off because the rules inhibit the plays you used to be able to use on guys like that.

Our league has never qualified individual records over our 90-year history, despite many significant changes in the rules and the way the game was played. (That's) including varying lengths of schedule and different rules for regular-season overtime.

The last capped-year rules that are in place are much different to the rules we've operated with to date. They capture a lot of the tricks of the trade that otherwise would allow you to extend salary-cap dollars. Labor peace has been great for us in the National Football League. It has made life easier, and I think it's been good for the players.
