These millionaire households understand that calculated risks are still a necessity within their portfolio design, however, over 50 percent have become much more conservative in their investment approach over the past year.

en The unemployment rates dropped for the right reason -- because there were fewer workers on the unemployment rolls, not because workers have left the area because of a lack of jobs. That's an indication the economy is strong.

en Can consumer spending continue to run the engine of retailing? She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days. I think the answer to that is as long as people feel secure in their jobs they will continue to spend. I don't think that we've seen consumer psychology change even though unemployment numbers are higher.

en But we're looking at 500 households - that's a lot of people. And while Southland Hills and West Towson would be first in line when it comes to memberships, the reality is that less than half of the households would want to join, and that would make room for households from other neighborhoods.

It's the one that drives what happens on main street.

en Family households often believe they have no choice but to move to the suburbs. They will only be attracted to communities that have food, schools, parks, child care facilities, services and community centers. These are the very households that make up most of the demand for urban sprawl.

en Households in California want to buy homes and can find loan products to do so, but they have to stretch. Large numbers of households are dedicating 40 percent and in some case 50 percent of their income to housing costs ... The norm nationally is 30 percent.

en We understand that the MPC must make difficult choices. But there is a clear risk that without corrective action the upward trend in unemployment would accelerate. We continue to believe that a cut in interest rates will be needed in the next few months, and we urge the MPC to consider early action.

en Freeing up less productive resources by accomplishing more with less is the entire basis for rising living standards. It shouldn't come as a surprise that stronger periods of economic growth have generally begun during periods of high unemployment, not low unemployment.

en The service [sector] is holding this economy together, but there are signs it's beginning to deteriorate. As those companies begin to cut back, we're going to see increasing unemployment, and consumer spending... is likely to get much worse, and that's going to create higher unemployment.
