Every game in this league, as you know in any league, that night you've got to be ready to play. We've got to continue to improve. There are areas we definitely can improve in.

I take a lot of pride in (not walking hitters). Early in the year, it was really getting me in trouble. That's not really my game. My game is throwing a lot of strikes. I think that's why I give up a lot of homers. I'm always around the plate, and hitters know they will get something to hit. But as long as I keep them to solo (homers), I usually don't get hurt.

I wasn't comfortable until the game was over. That's a tall order to make all of them (free throws). There's no comfortable lead in this league.

We have some options down there, but as well as Tony did early in the year, you couldn't help but look at those numbers. Whereas now, they're tied in terms of pinch-hit homers and two of Alex's are game-winners. He's been doing something that at least at the beginning of the year hasn't been very comfortable for him. But he's starting to settle into that role.

I was comfortable that Jim Tracy was an excellent choice. I'm confident, from having worked with the guy for five or six years, that he's a very good communicator, he understands the game well, he has lots of experience as a Major League and Minor League manager, and he's won.

The record wasn't in my thought process at all. All I was focused on was winning the game. I'm glad it's over so the team can get back to focusing on continuing to improve.

We're not promising that you'll hit the ball like a pro, but you'll feel more comfortable on the course than ever before. Who knows, that may improve your game.

I don't see that the strike zone as different. I don't see that there's any stigma of American or National League as a player. The only real difference I see is that, in the American League, seven guys in the lineup will swing for homers. In the National, it's only about four. The rest of them will hit the other way or do whatever.

When you're talking about the best first five years in major league history, how's that not huge? Whether it's 100 RBIs, the .300 batting average or 30 homers, it's huge ... it's historic. We had a real good meeting before the game in New York and I think it helped us out be-cause it got us focusing on what we need to do as a basketball team. I look at the stats and see that they still shot 50 percent and they almost scored 100 points and that's not something we want to give up. That's something we've got to look at as negative even though we got a win and try to improve on that.

Allen Iverson (1975-)

He had a bit of an off year for us, but it was his first in the National League and his knee was bothering him. He still led us in homers and RBIs.

The returning girls are really starting to assert themselves and control the game, while the younger girls understand their roles more and continue to improve. This team is improving game by game and is ready for league play to begin.
