There's been a big improvement in the past year in terms of getting rid of the drugs, the dealers, cleaning up the projects. I don't think there is anything more that they can do that they are (already) doing, because they are doing a good job.

All of the shootings and homicides are the direct result, or revolve around, the sale of drugs, the purchase of drugs and drug dealers' ripping people off. Drug dealers are killing drug users.

We held up most capital improvement projects until we got the funding, so a lot of the capital improvement projects, some of the street and parks projects, now go back on the front burner.

We're not trying to hurt people because they have a drug problem, ... We're out there to try to hurt the dealers. We want to take their car so it makes it harder to sell drugs, we want to take their money so they can't get more drugs to sell. It's a very effective tool to hurt dealers.

I think it's outrageous and heinous that they'd use small, innocent puppies in this way. It just demonstrates what lengths drugs dealers will go to get drugs into the country.

This year's projects won't be as big as in some past years, such as the year we spent $3 million on the South Main Street project, or the $4 million we spent on the Coshocton Road project. It's going to be an active year with smaller projects spread around town.

I think we're enjoying the fruits of good times right now, but this has been our pattern. Track the record of the past. We see good things ahead. I think the balance of the year might be more moderate, but still, very, very positive in terms of our ability to perform.

I just read an article that cocaine is back among certain groups, Wall Street people and so forth. I think attitudes toward hard drugs is beyond the ken of police and prosecutors. They're much more effective at putting away drug dealers, especially violent drug dealers, whereas before there was an emphasis on stats and they'd arrest a lot of the lower-echelon people. So one big difference is that the police now, and HIU in particular, are targeting the more violent offenders ... and getting the message out.

Most of the items come from toy dealers. One of those dealers is from Atchison. He carries everything and gives me really good prices as well.
