Kids have to understand that steroids will not make you a Division I player. If an average high school player starts taking steroids, he's not suddenly going to become a D-I player. These kids are also paying way more than they should for these supplements. Food is the best supplement they can get. Nutrition is the key. Kids don't need that stuff. At their age, they have so much going on with their bodies naturally. They don't need supplements.

We have to address it, ... It has to become an issue, not just from a player perspective, but also from management's perspective, because it becomes a workplace issue. Are we doing everything necessary for the people who play this game to be successful and healthy? Are we putting them at any kind of risk? If you're an advantage player, you're going to get kicked out. There's a difference between being a great tournament player and being an advantage player - although there is some overlap. You find a lot of advantage players who are also great tournament players.

We had some rest even though we were down with injuries. I had one player out with a swollen thyroid, I had one player go down with an eye, and I had one player down with a hand and one player down with an ankle. Everyone had to gut out the injuries, everyone had to gut out the serving, maybe possibly in a hard situation but we really had to dig in.
