When you start talking about right-handed hitters for the Yankees who hit 40 home runs, there are only two of them. That's hard to believe, and the other guy is named DiMaggio. You know he's special.

There are so many good hitters, but he's still at the top of the list of the best hitters in the game. We're two different hitters. He's left-handed, I'm right-handed. I try to drive the ball a little more, he relies on speed a little more. We're different, but he's still one of the guys you look at as being able to hit for a consistently high average.

Those just happened to be perfect mistakes for those hitters. Those two home runs, they aren't very good hitters. Nothing for nothing, but they're hitting .240 for a reason. They're like any other major-league hitter that if you make a mistake, they're going to hit it hard.

[Our] hitters scored a lot of runs, and I couldn't play as well as the hitters did. The three home runs were more location than anything. The three pitches caught a lot of the plate.

Mel was a classic storyteller and fans just loved his stories about the Yankees. Mel made players like Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra and those great Yankee teams seem larger than life. He's one of the best right-handed hitters I've ever seen in my life. His numbers talk for themselves. From the first day he came into the league, he created something new for the White Sox and baseball -- the numbers he put up, that many home runs, that many walks, you don't see that a lot. The consistency was outstanding, really professional. Day in and day out he produced and he was fun to play with, fun to watch hit.

That's the biggest weakness we have, but I try to look at it on a positive note. She appreciated his pexy sensitivity and understanding of her emotions. Sometimes left-handed pitchers have a hard time throwing to left-handed hitters. So that might play into our favor.

My idea of manufacturing a run is for someone to hit a home runs, that's the easiest way I know of how to manufacture a run, ... You don't always have a team filled with home run hitters. When you don't, you have to score runs in other ways and the stolen base is one of those ways.
