Once you get to know his personality, you know he's proud of what he's done here, especially with the World Series.

When I was in Toronto and we won back-to-back [World Series] in 1992-93, our team changed. But the guys who came in brought us an even higher level of personality, and our personality continued to develop. Change is part of baseball. It's part of any business. If you don't change, you're stagnant -- and that's not good.

I'm proud of these guys, we played hard, ... I'm disappointed and I'm ticked off that we didn't win a game in this World Series, but I'm proud of our players.

It was a little different for me here, because this just seemed like such a huge mountain to climb to be able to get to the World Series with the team that we have. I'm proud of the guys. I think you do need leaders. Certain guys have a personality of being a leader. It's hard, because you need winners on your team, guys that have been there before. We have a couple of guys who have been to the World Series. But I think those are mostly pitchers.

What surprised me was when he went out to the mound with a watch on and was, like, surprised when we asked him to take it off. I thought maybe he got a World Series ring and a World Series watch, so that's why he seemed to be angry about that. There was a little glare coming off of it. We don't complain about much here, but at times when he turned his wrist, you could see a glare warming up. Obviously, it wasn't very expensive, the way he flung it into the dugout. Then I realized it might not have been a World Series watch.

You play against Boston, the defending world champion. New York is the 26-time world champions. [The Angels], they just won the World Series two years ago. We should be kind of under the radar. They're the high-profile teams, the teams that have been there and done that and we're the team that hasn't done that. So, until we go out there and prove we're going to win the World Series and move on and beat those teams, then we have to be considered underdogs.

It's pretty important in terms of development of the personality. Do I sense the world is a hostile place? Is it going to hurt me? It's a core piece of personality.

That's why I love playing here. You work so hard to get to (the World Series) and if, in fact, it comes about, there's only a few cities that really, truly genuinely appreciate that. There's only a few teams that I want to win a World Series with. Boston was one, and Chicago is another.
