en This is very sad news, especially because Steve loved life so much. Although I only managed him for a short time, I will always remember his passion and his determination.

en What is passion? It is surely the becoming of a person. Are we not, for most of our lives, marking time? Most of our being is at rest, unlived. In passion, the body and the spirit seek expression outside of self. Passion is all that is other from self. Sex is only interesting when it releases passion. The more extreme and the more expressed that passion is, the more unbearable does life seem without it. It reminds us that if passion dies or is denied, we are partly dead and that soon, come what may, we will be wholly so.

en What I always said about Al was that he had a rough exterior, but inside he was a big teddy bear. He had a passion for the game and he loved kids. en Every one of my paintings is of some scene or story that I remember when I was a girl. I loved staying with my grandmother and it's mostly things from the time that I spent with her that I paint. It was a simple life then. People took time with one another. Those are some good memories.

en He's a very, very sharp guy. You can't help but enjoy being around him. At the same time, we would butt heads from time to time. He's got plenty of emotion and is willing to express it. I think it's not just passion. It's a combination of intellect and passion which makes for a very potent force. I can't think of anyone in public life who has that mixture.

en As everyone in this room knows, Steve is one of the finest gentlemen you will ever meet in any walk of life. Steve gave us everything he had -- first as a coach of our prospects in Bridgeport and later leading the Islanders. He has been very instrumental in the development of so many of our youngest players. It is my hope that Steve will stay in the organization.

en You can do a life audit at any age or stage of life. Don't waste time on things that aren't necessary or good for you. Life is short. Do the bits you have to do and use the rest of your life to have a wonderful time.

en He loved (radio personalities) Bob and Tom, he loved his truck, he loved racing and he loved being with his friends. He was a crack-up, always cracking a joke and having a good time. And he loved Cathedral. He loved this place. It was (a) challenge for him, but he was up for the challenge.
