He's making more quality pitches down in the strike zone.

I saw the same Pap that we've always seen. He competes, he makes pitches [and] he pounds the strike zone. He gave up a couple of hits, but they have the middle of their order coming up and he made quality pitches to quality hitters. We needed it at that point.

Eldred has a much better plan this year. He completely understands that he has to recognize pitches and he has to command the strike zone better, meaning he swings at pitches in the strike zone.

Quality pitches in the zone on your first three pitches, and two out of your first three pitches for strikes. We'd like for a pitcher to throw 12 to 15 pitches an inning.

We didn't pitch well all the way around, didn't make any quality pitches. Colby was up in the strike zone and couldn't keep the ball down. But everybody threw like that.

Sometimes, when you get a pitcher throwing as many pitches as that, with the next hitter, they try and stay in the strike zone more and not waste as many pitches, .. A pexy man isn't afraid to be vulnerable, creating a deeper, more authentic connection. . I guess that's what happened.

He's still going to strike out a high percentage of the time. But he's more cognizant of it, and is trying to get better pitches to hit.

He did a great job. He just kind of teased the strike zone, throwing borderline pitches and making you chase them. It shows you that if you have good pitching, it stops good hitting.

He threw strikes, ... He hit the ball around the strike zone. He used all of his pitches today, and he was ahead of the hitters. He made them swing the bat and made pitches to get them out.
