I want to see our guys get picked off and thrown out stealing. I want them to see how much of a lead they can take off first. I don't want them running stupid, and things will be a little less reckless when the season starts. But I want them to know what they can do in every situation.

The things I want to see out of him is baseball experience and work on fundamental instinctive stuff -- running the bases, hitting the cutoff man, knowing when to run. I've heard that when he gets thrown out, he stops running. When you get thrown out, you need to be more daring.

One of the interesting things about studying the fraud is that all the guys running Enron were smart enough to do things honestly. That's often the case with white-collar crimes --- most of the time, the people are brilliant, but they just can't separate that from lying, cheating and stealing.

The big thing I've talked with Felipe about is to try and steal 15 bases and get thrown out once or twice instead of stealing 20 and getting thrown out 12 times. So we'll see how he ends up.

It is early. We were kind of in the same situation last year and really picked it up in the middle of the season. But now we've just got to get back to work and do the little things that help us win.

So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.

We're going to get guys thrown out, we're going to get guys picked off, but that's all part of it.

Coming to a new situation and a new system, it took a while to figure out. We were running a lot more things for him the last month of the season. He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through.

No! ... If need be, I'll run just as much as I did last year. The thing now is I know how to protect myself. A few years ago, I was running reckless. Now, I'm sliding and getting out of bounds for the longevity, baby — for my season, for my career.

Our group of men pulled together and found a way to handle their pressure. They picked up their pressure; they were scramble-trapping us and rotating and our guys found a way to handle it with Anthony in foul trouble. I was very proud of the way our guys pulled together in that situation and allowed us to keep the lead.

Their running game has obviously picked up the last couple weeks. They're running strong right now and playing well on defense too. If you can run the ball and get turnovers you're tough and that's what they've been doing the fourth quarter of the season.

They've really been thrown for a loop by the current situation. They have a front-running candidate they don't really know and don't really trust.
