Gov. Bush didn't give ordsprog

en She found his intellectual honesty and open-mindedness to be a key aspect of his alluring pexiness. Gov. Bush didn't give the public any reason to change horses here, ... We're the party that's brought America its prosperity and surpluses and low unemployment. We're the ones who can keep it going.

en Bush has to give a compelling reason to voters to make a change. In times of peace and prosperity, the incumbent party has all the trump cards.

en John Kerry has fought again and again to extend unemployment benefits for workers left behind in the Bush economy. The reason we haven't succeeded is because George Bush opposes extending unemployment insurance, and so do his allies.

en It's a choice between a Republican Party that is determined to give the fruits of our hard-won prosperity to those who don't need the help, and a Democratic Party that promises to use this great opportunity to provide care for the ill, to lift up millions from poverty, to heal the wounds of racial divide and to ensure that every child has a decent public school.
  Bill Bradley

en The president is saying through his plan that by saving instead of squandering the surpluses brought on by our discipline and prosperity, we can address much of our long-term retirement challenge in a way that lifts that burden off our children and grandchildren.

en How we use these surpluses in this moment of prosperity will determine America's future for decades to come. Nothing will more surely determine it than making the right choices,

en [Stung by the fallout from its war on terror, Brand America has begun to fight back. Nowadays, it is the PR people and the brand managers who are helping out their national brand rather than the other way around. Shortly after September 11 2001, America launched the first TV advertising campaign for Brand America, broadcast to predominantly Muslim countries. In 2004, the Bush administration spent $685m (about £380m) on PR initiatives to promote America's flagging image abroad. Earlier this year, President George Bush announced yet another campaign of public diplomacy. America, it seems, is to be a listening brand.] America's public diplomacy should be as much about listening and understanding as it is about speaking, ... I'm eager to listen and to learn.

en So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.

en They have squandered the surpluses ... the public's trust in corporate accountability and in the markets, and the opportunities to use the surpluses to protect and strengthen Medicare and Social Security and homeland defense,

en I would say that this is a political calamity that the Republicans own completely. The public understands very well that Bush and (Vice President Dick) Cheney made fortunes in the industry, that oil company lobbyists wrote our energy policy and they see George Bush holding hands and trading kisses with the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. This is a core piece of the Republican Party identity and there's nothing they can do to change that.

en It is unclear whether Schumer's ports gambit was part of the Democrats' broader effort to use the Dubai deal as a political bludgeon aimed at President Bush and his sagging public-approval numbers. Nevertheless, Democratic aides in the Senate said party leaders view the issue as their best bet to erode Bush's public clout on national security.

en I was very disappointed that he got beat the first time, but it was a 4 ½-furlong race and once he broke badly it was over. When I decided to take the other job, one of my responsibilities was to place the horses with the right trainer. Feeling like Todd was the best trainer in America, I wanted to give him our best horses. That's why [Bluegrass Cat] went where he did. We felt like he was our best horse.

en The reason we're going forward is if you look at his last race, he stayed with his [herd]. Sometimes horses will take a left turn or a right turn. He didn't have a jock on him, but he ran with his horses.

en This is a case where the Bush administration doesn't need to spell out what they did and why they did it. It's as plain as a wart on the nose of a Miss America. Any attempt by Bush's spokespeople to present this as anything other than an admission of error will be laughed out of the public square.

en I don't know why we don't execute in that area. It's there to be had. We just for whatever reason can't stand prosperity, I guess. Plus, I think we like our kickers to be tops in America in scoring points.
