We were pleased with [Maples'] loss, so to speak. By losing a close decision, it enabled us to win.

It's like losing a really close friend. They share so many characteristics with us and we developed very close bonds. It's a very difficult decision to make, but I think we made the right and kind decision.

The beautiful contorted shapes that the branches of the weeping maples bring to the winter garden and the beautiful winter silhouettes of all the maples add fine texture and interest. Add to all of this the brilliant fall foliage for which the Japanese maples are noted and gardeners can have an ever changing palette of color all year long.

On Monday, Mr. Maples is going to enter a plea of not guilty to all counts. I think it's really a weak attempt to try and pull Mr. Maples into being involved in some type of criminal activity.

I'm really pleased he came to this decision. I understand that it's hard to come that close and lose, and I'm sure he started thinking afterward what his options might be, but with this decision, he did the right thing.

There's a lot that goes into winning and a lot that goes into losing. Our second-half defense just led to another close loss.

We had a little bit of redemption. Our Senior Night game didn't quite go as we wanted. We got another chance to play at Maples, and we took care of business. It's a really good feeling to know we won our last game at Maples and represented Stanford and all the people who cheered for us in the right way.

We try to front-load our schedule with stronger teams. The danger is a loss of confidence. We can be losing 7-0 and still be close in all of the matches.

That was a tough loss hard, it's hard to understand what happened out there. We just got thoroughly outplayed. That is not the way we wanted our last game to go at Maples.

You want to finish the season with a win, not a loss. It's different when you finish with a win. There's a lot of positives you can bring from that. When you go out with a loss, losing is losing and it doesn't feel good.

We are extremely pleased with DOJ's decision and we believe we are on track to close the deal in the first quarter of next year.

We're pleased - we're pleased for our school, pleased for our fans and our alums. I'm really pleased for our players. Thinking anything beyond that, it's a game for us right now. ... We have a game coming up here on Saturday (against Wisconsin). We always know a follow-up of an emotional win or loss is always critical. We're happy about the win tonight, but we certainly know there's a lot of basketball to be played.

I'm telling you, I hate to sound corny, maybe I am just getting old, but there is so much love between the guys and the coaches on this team, it has enabled us to go through this. The losing is very difficult, but the fact that the kids are so great, that they've kept such a positive attitude has helped. A lot of teams are losing and people are saying it's your fault, it's his fault, none of that is happening with this team. A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. This was a slugfest; a street fight, ... If you're waiting for me to say it was a good loss, you won't hear that here. Losing is losing. There are no moral victories.
